[Cincinnati, OH]- Independent singer-songwriter Mol Sullivan releases her deeply personal new single, β€œDog,” alongside an intimate live performance video. The track marks her first major distribution deal after being invited to UnitedMasters’ exclusive PARTNER program, a selective initiative offering label-style support while allowing artists to retain full ownership of their masters. The deal aligns perfectly with Mol’s decade-long commitment to creative freedom and artistic integrity. β€œDog” will also anchor her upcoming EP, set for release in Fall 2025.

In late March of this year, Mol lost her mother while on a European tour opening for and playing in the band WHY?. On the 31st of May β€”the night of her mother’s serviceβ€” a fire broke out in Mol’s Cincinnati home, claiming the life of her partner and collaborator Josh Evert’s beloved hound, Jackson. Sullivan’s dog, Augie, was successfully resuscitated by paramedics at the scene and is cautiously expected to make a full recovery. The fire left her home in near ruin, and the fate of her instruments and precious relics remains largely uncertain.

β€œHow lucky for us that our ship has taken on water in the saltiest of seasβ€”that our friendships and community have kept us buoyant through turbulent swells as we make our way to shore.”

β€’ ABOUT β€œDOG” β€’

In the aftermath of the fire and the loss of Jackson, Mol returned to β€œDog,” a song she had recorded the previous summer about Augie, a rescue who helped her through early sobriety.

Initially hesitant to release itβ€”fearing it might feel too obvious or sentimentalβ€”she and Evert revisited the track with a fresh perspective and a new purpose.

As they listened back, they felt the song still had more to say. After experimenting with different takes, guitarists, and instruments to find the perfect β€œhowl,” they added the jingle of Jackson’s dog tags and enlisted Will Hansen to channel a hound’s cry on pedal steel. Capturing the forlorn feeling of loss, β€œDog” evolved beyond a quiet ode to companionship; it became a eulogy, a thanksgiving, and an anthem for anyone who’s ever had to say goodbye before they were ready. What began as a personal reflection now stands as a shared tribute for anyone who has loved and lost a dog.

Throughout her career, Mol has never shied away from heavier subjects, openly sharing her journey through sobriety and self-discovery. Between earning two wins for Best Singer/Songwriter at the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards in 2014 & 2015 and 2024’s debut studio album GOOSE, she has cultivated a loyal, underground following drawn to her emotional depth; her vulnerability isn't just cathartic, it’s connective. For over ten years, fans have found solace in her songs, feeling witnessed in their pain and finding community through that release.

Co-produced, mixed, and mastered by Mol Sullivan and Josh Evert at Silver City Studios (Milwaukee, WI), β€œDog” was originally recorded in the summer of 2024 during sessions for her third LP, nearly a year before the fire. In the wake of a turbulent first half of 2025, the track has taken on new meaning, prompting Mol to curate a moody, reflective EP from those recordings, centering β€œDog” and surrounding it with similarly introspective tracks that mirror her current emotional landscape as an artist.

Honest lyrics like "My father was about to bury me, until the love of a dog showed itself to me," speak to the kind of devotion that can keep someone going, even when they're ready to give up. The chorus, built around the layered howling of guitars and vocals, becomes a visceral, aching cry, one that deepens the sense of loss and longing at the song's core.

In the weeks leading up to the release, Mol invited fans on Instagram to share photos and stories of their dogs, past and present. The outpouring became the foundation for the single’s artwork, an ambitious collage of deeply loved companions and memories from those who have known the joy and sorrow of loving a dog.

β€œIt felt like the only cover that made sense,” Mol says, β€œThis is for all of us to share.”

With her Cincinnati home still in recovery, β€œDog” is the 𝔣𝔦𝔯𝔰𝔱 𝔰𝔱𝔒𝔭 π”£π”¬π”―π”΄π”žπ”―π”‘.

Born from the love of a pup who found her and shaped by loss, it’s more than a songβ€”it’s a living tribute, a howl of gratitude, and a reminder that even in the depths of grief, a dog’s companionship can carry us through.

I have been the champion of spin
Topsy turvy, my stories read well
I have been lyin' through a grin
Can’t remember myself from before

Oh, the patterns I make
Oh, tryin' to shake it off
Oh, you think you’re sick of me?
I’m sick of myself
And too proud for your help

I have been close to givin' in
Can’t find a reason anymore
I have been shrinkin' in my skin
Can’t get myself off of the floor

Oh, the patterns I make
Oh, tryin to shake it off
Oh, you think you’re sick of me?
I’m sick of myself
And too proud for your help

You had been livin' caged in
I saw you, stepped out of my shame
I took you home, you kissed me on the nose
I held you and gave you a name

My father was about to bury me
Until the love of a dog showed itself to me
You got me out of bed and out of my own head
You saved me from myself, my friend

ABOUT MOL 🀑

Mol Sullivan has been a staple in the Cincinnati music scene for years. Her lyrics wax Midwestern sentimentality but aren't easy to bruise, and the vinegary twang of vocals and guitars bridges her roots that straddle Southern Ohio and Northern Kentucky. She carries herself with an assured, tomboyish bravado that is at times melted by saccharine femininity, lending itself to a dynamic range of vocal range and texture.

Her debut studio LP, GOOSE, was unveiled in early 2024 and was featured on Bandcamp's Essential Releases, KCRW's Top Tune of the Day, and spent six weeks on the NACC Top 200 Chart (peaking at #22). This year, she spent several months on the road as the newest member of WHY? (guitar, synth, and vocals).

If you're in the market for some fresh music to drum up nostalgia for 90s Top 40  babes, you're in luck. Sullivan is charming, witty, and wildly personal- a bowl of milk, deserving every single lap of a parched tabby's tongue.
